Summary:
“Andre Aciman’s Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents’ cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. Each is unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, when, during the restless summer weeks, unrelenting currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion and test the charged ground between them. Recklessly, the two verge toward the one thing both fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. It is an instant classic and one of the great love stories of our time.”

Why should you read this book?
I fell in love with literature because words touch me like nothing else. For me, it’s the most magnificent form of art. And Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman is pure art. And it touched me deeply.
This book, first published in 2007, takes place in the Italian Riviera. I am mentioning the location first because it is extremely important. In my opinion, it works like a character that builds, influences and contributes to the narrative. It was described so poetically that I felt the colors, the sounds and the smells of this place. The book has made me travel to Italy and there I met Elio and Oliver.
In Call Me By Your Name, Elio – narrator and protagonist – tells us the story of the Summer of 1987, when he, a seventeen-year-old, fell in love with an American man, Oliver. Elio became obsessed with Oliver and I became obsessed with both of them. Their burning passion involved self-discovery, games, ecstasy and loss. Above all, they immerse themselves in a symbiotic relationship: “Call me by your name and I’ll call you by mine”.
You should definitely get to the nearest bookstore and buy a copy of this book. It’s transcendental, intense and beautifully written. It’s poetic and imagetic. There can be no doubt that this is one of the greatest books of this century. As Colm Tóibín put it, Call Me By Your Name is a miracle.
I’d like to thank Atlantic Books for the free copy. You can buy the book here.

Vi o filme e adorei tanto, tanto, tanto! Normalmente, não leio livros depois de ver o filme (primeiro leio o livro, depois vejo o filme), mas vou ter de abrir uma excepção neste caso, não só porque amei o filme, como por todas as descrições que já li do livro, incluindo a tua 🙂
